Consultation on SRP

Consultation on SRP

St John the Baptist School (SJB), part of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust, is consulting on a proposal to open a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) Unit from September 2024 for autistic young people. The SRP will be for young people diagnosed with ASD requiring specialised support to enable them to succeed in a mainstream school, but who have the cognitive ability to achieve in line with their non-SEND peers. Without the support that this SRP will provide, these identified students would not be able to achieve their potential in a mainstream setting (the SRP will be for students with an EHCP who do not require a special school placement).

The SRP Unit will build up its student numbers over a five-year period, up to a capacity of 30 (within Years 7 to 11). All students placed in the unit will have an EHCP and will be admitted within the schools PAN. The main point of intake will be in Year 7, with 6 places being offered each year.

Subject to the outcome of this consultation, a brand-new purpose-built unit will be built on site at SJB, separate to the main school building. This would be subject to the requirements for planning permission and building control etc. All funding for the development and resourcing of this unit is being provided by the Local Authority.

Details of Surrey County Council’s education justification for the proposals as well further details about the consultation can be found in the documents linked below.

The 4 week consultation period begins on Wednesday 15 June 2022 and closes on Wednesday 13 July 2022. There will be a public meeting at 10am on Monday 11 July at SJB. If you would like to attend, please email consultations@sjb.surrey.sch.uk with the subject ‘ASD Unit Public Meeting’ to register your attendance.
